Matcha Narino

This premium matcha is made from the Narino cultivar, a new variety grown in the historic Okunoyama tea garden, which dates back to the Muromachi period. It has been specially crafted for entry into national tea competitions, with the finest care taken at every stage of production.

The tea leaves are hand-picked using the meticulous "shigoki-tsumi" technique, where only the best leaves are selected. Throughout the process, utmost attention is given to ensure that only the most perfect leaves are used, with the final selection done by hand with chopsticks. These chosen tencha leaves are then stone-ground, resulting in a matcha that is even smoother and more refined than the standard Narino. It boasts an intense umami flavour with a rich, creamy texture and no bitterness, offering a luxurious and deeply satisfying matcha experience.

About Horii Shichimeien

Founded in 1879, Horii Shichimeien has a long-standing tradition of producing premium Uji tea. Located in the Yamashiro region, nestled between the Uji and Kizu rivers, the company meticulously selects the finest tea leaves grown in this historic area. Horii Shichimeien takes pride in its connection to the "Uji Shichimeien" (Seven Famous Tea Gardens of Uji), established by the Ashikaga Shogunate during the Muromachi period. Today, Horii Shichimeien is the sole remaining active tea garden among the original seven, specifically the "Okunoyama" tea garden. As both tea cultivators and artisans, Horii Shichimeien is dedicated to preserving the heritage of Uji tea while delivering exceptional quality to tea lovers around the world.
