This Tokoname-ware teapot, known as the “Black-Slip Fuji Owl Teapot,” features a stainless steel tea strainer that is ideal for use even with finely milled deep-steamed tea leaves.
Specifications:
- Body Size: 16 × 14 × 10 cm
- Capacity: Full capacity approx. 400 ml; recommended usage approx. 320 ml
Key Features:
- Equipped with a stainless steel mesh strainer suitable for fine tea leaves, allowing for easy and reliable brewing of deep-steamed teas.
- The capacity is suitable for about 2–3 servings (consider approximately 100 ml per person).
- Crafted from iron-rich red clay, then coated with black slip and fired at around 1,100°C. The materials used contain no harmful substances.
- Each piece is hand-painted, ensuring a unique and artisanal finish.
- To ensure a proper fit between the lid and the body, both surfaces are carefully polished. As a result, traces of this polishing work may be visible.
About Tokoname Ware (Tokoname-yaki):
Tokoname ware boasts a history spanning over 1,000 years, dating back to the late Heian period. It is recognized as one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns. The Tokoname region produces a wide range of ceramics, from everyday teapots and tableware to architectural materials like ceramic pipes, tiles, and sanitary ceramics. On June 11, 1976, Tokoname ware received official designation as a Traditional Craft under Japanese law dedicated to the promotion of traditional crafts.
